Shelter Rock Ranch is in the business of equipping boys with the skills they need to be successful, responsible men one day. To be successful in that endeavor, we need men who can serve as mentors for these boys. We’re not asking for a huge commitment of time or effort. Shelter Rock Ranch does all the preparation and presentation, bringing to the table hands on projects and engaging instruction in things like personal finance, auto maintenance, home repairs, honesty, and anger resolution. You would be looking at three hours of time commitment once a month, and the effort of inviting and bringing boys you already know to our Life Skill Training. If you honestly don’t have any access to boys ages 12-16, or if the boys you invite choose not to come, you are still welcome to be a mentor and come to participate with other boys. You would simply sit with them, lead discussions at your table with pre-determined discussion questions, and help the boys if they have any trouble doing the projects. And, if you aren’t an expert in the topic we’re presenting that day, don’t let it scare you off. Boys need to see that men still have things to learn. One of the things we want to instill in the boys is a teachable spirit. They could learn that best from watching someone demonstrate it for them. If you have a desire to change the trajectory of the next generation and are willing to speak life into boys as you hang out and have fun, this could be a great fit for you.
If you are interested in becoming a Life Skill Training mentor, you can register for an upcoming orientation by emailing us your name, contact information, and the date you would like to attend. A volunteer application and background check will be required for all mentors.
